“The Best Weekend of Your Life”

By: Janeth Terrazas Ramirez
Young life is a popular topic at Windsor High School. A handful of students participate in this after school activity which seems to bring a lot of classmates together spiritually. Young Life is dedicated to letting kids of all different ages to let God into their lives. Young Life organizes a weekend known by “Snow Camp”. It’s a couple of days that are made to have fun and forget all of your worries. Amanda Jones and Madisyn Bruen are two sophomores who participate in Young Life weekly. They had the opportunity of joining their leaders on November 14th-16th on what was one of the most “memorable” weekends of their life. Bruen says, “This weekend was my chance to hang out with some pretty rad people and strengthen my relationship with God.” Bruen started Young Life in August and plans to be a leader in college, and hopefully contribute to Young Life for the rest of her life. She was invited to Young Life by two seniors. Since then she has not stopped going and she can’t imagine herself not going to it anymore. Jones and Bruen have been close friends since their 6th grade year, Bruen encouraged Jones to join the club because it would change her perspective on life completely. Jones says, “Being around people my own age with the same views and just spending time with so many great people is my favorite part of Young Life.” She influences her close friends and peers to try and come out to the club sometime, but she also doesn’t want to pressure them because she respects their views as well.

Weather Isn’t the Only Thing Changing

The temperatures in Windsor took a rapid decline these last few weeks. The warm weather turned unbearable in a matter of a few days. The students who walk to school definitely felt how much the weather changed. Jacie Stroud and Jacey Maloney had some strong opinions over the weather changing. The weather seemed to affect them both more than what they had realized. Stroud and Maloney are sophomores at Windsor High School. Stroud walks to school in the morning and afternoon. Her parents both work in the morning through the afternoon so they are unable to give her a ride to school. Stroud believes the cold weather makes everyone around her grumpy and negative. “The temperatures are so cold that they put everyone in a bad mood”, Jacie says. Maloney on the other hand has a complete different perspective. She gets dropped off and picked up from her mom in the mornings and afternoons. Maloney thinks the freezing weather lifts peoples spirits. She enjoys the cold weather because she gets to wear hats, boots and big jackets. Maloney and Stroud do agree on one thing though. These girls dislike that the weather can cause more accidents. The snow accumulated quickly, which surely provoked at least a couple of accidents that wouldn’t have happened if the ground was clear. Stroud and Maloney both say everyone should be at least twice as careful driving in the dangerous slippery weather.

“Money Going Down the Drain”

Winter is a time for holidays,
everyone stresses and shops for days.
Walmart makes millions of dollars,
people buy their pets a couple of collards.
Everyone decides to blow their money,
when it doesn’t happen to you it’s funny.
We cook turkeys in the oven,
that day McDonald’s doesn’t get any lovin’.
That night Black Friday starts,
don’t go psycho because then you fart.

Windsor High School Cheerleading team

By: Sidney Roland

Windsor High School’s cheerleading team has state coming up this upcoming weekend so we got the inside scoop to see what they have been doing to prepare the team. After speaking with a member of the team it sounds like they are learning the new routine very well and should be in good shape for state.
Speaking with members of the team they stated that they have really enjoyed cheerleading for Windsor and also the whole team is very supportive with everybody on the team. The Windsor High School cheerleading team goes to almost every single sporting event at Windsor. They get the crowd hyped up, the students up and moving, chants started, and the teammates excited to play their game. One of the teammates states that she does not think the crowd would be very loud and outgoing if there were not cheerleaders there to start chants and dances. Mara Fogg stated that she will be returning to the team next year because she enjoys everybodys company and making new friends. She also said she enjoyed that the team is really fun and outgoing. Everybody at Windsor High School looks forward to seeing the cheerleaders at all the sporting events for the next few more months of school.

Theatre news

Jaime Hottinger

This year our theatre departments musical was Addams Family directed by our theatre teacher Estrada. It featured Windsor High School students from various grades as actors and working behind the scenes. The theatre teacher Mrs.Estrada worked with the tech director to put together this performance over the course of the semester.
According to Mrs.Estrada the students auditioned at the beginning of the year and had to learn their lines and and the songs with the band. For freshman they also have to learn how to act and move on stage. The tech students all get to use the opportunity to learn how to pick costumes, design a set, and add lights and music to the show.
The Addams Family Musical is the gothic family we all love around halloween. They had all the loved characters including Pugsley, Wednesday, Morticia, and grandma. This year the tech club helped out with some moving set on stage as well. "The high school production is given more challenges," Mrs.Estrada said, "We have less budget and less experience but we do have a dedicated group of students who all become close."

To audition for the spring play the auditions are December eighth through tenth and the sign up sheet is outside of the theater classroom. You also can sign up for the tech club, which requires no audition but only a conversation with Jane.

Windsor Mcdonalds Holiday items
By Jaime Hottinger

For this Christmas season the Windsor McDonalds if expanding their menu to support their more holiday loving customers. After speaking to the managers at the store I discovered they were getting a white chocolate mocha, and Holiday pies!
The White Chocolate has been in stores for a few weeks of November and has already gained popularity. The flavoring can also be used in a latte, hot chocolate, and the iced coffee. The mocha is described on the McDonalds website as “A richly indulgent mocha with decadently sweet white chocolate flavor, steamed with whole or nonfat milk and topped with whipped cream. Made with 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified espresso,”. The  medium White Chocolate Mocha has 400 calories with 53g of sugar. The price of the Large mocha is only three dollars and fifty nine cents.
The other item the store will be receiving is the Baked Holiday Pie which isn’t in store just yet but should be coming soon. After speaking to the store manager Sidonna Adams the pie was described as a sugar cookie like crust with sprinkles on the top and vanilla custard inside. The pie has 270 calories with 15g of sugar according to the McDonalds website and is around the same size as the strawberry cream and apple pie. The price couldn’t be told exactly but it is expected to be near the price of a dollar.
Aside from these items without the general manager I couldn't be assured what other items would be coming to the store. Other items have been around in the past the customers and crew members have been hoping for the return of. Gretchen Lamfers said “The Eggnog shake was so good in the past I really can’t wait to have it again,”. Irina Hubbs told me that the Eggnog shake has indeed been asked for quite often this past month. As the days grow closer to Christmas the items will slowly drift into the store, try them while they last.

This Christmas you might be scratching your head on what gift to give that one complicated person in your life, well all you need now that person's zodiac sign and we’ve done the thinking for you.

Windsor lacrosse players get ahead of the game

Windsor Lacrosse players get ahead of the game
By Gabe Kawamura
11/20/2014

Windsor High School lacrosse players are getting ready for the official spring season by practicing and training to get better in preparation for the upcoming season. Many athletes are practicing hard right now so that the team can have a good season.
The players are getting ready with the starting date of February 23 coming right around the corner. After school, some lacrosse players will be hitting the wall and passing with each other. Max Hansen, a Junior on the Varsity team is seen practicing and shooting on the goal after school.
Brady Bowman, a Junior at WHS said that he sees a lot of “hard workers hitting the wall,” and sometimes sees Hansen and Hunter Hopp, a starter for WHS lacrosse, practicing.
Coach John Belleau, the head coach of the team has just started a regular practice schedule. Every Wednesday after school Coach Belleau and the team will be out on the field practicing as if it were the regular season. During practice, Coach Belleau does walkthroughs with the team, and the players work hard in preparation for every lacrosse game. There’s also a possibility that the team will start to use the weight room to get in shape.
The preseason practices will benefit everyone on the team, the new players and the old. More than half of the expected players this season were out there at the first preseason practice.
Getting a lot of players is a big goal for Windsor lacrosse this year. If there are enough players on the team, a C-Team and a new paid coaching position will be made. This will be the third team in addition to the Varsity and JV teams.
“The rumor this year is a large group of freshmen,” Assistant principal and athletics director Mark Kanagy said. The addition of these new players might be enough to create the C-Team. Mr. Kanagy added that there were “close to 50 - 55 kids out last year.”
KC Scott, a Junior on the team and lacrosse player for 7 years says that there’s a “chance we could get 15 - 20 plus” new players this upcoming season.
A big way that the team has gotten new players was by getting the word out to students at Windsor High School. Bowman talks about his friend Petey Maxwell, a starting defenseman, “Petey always tries to get me to play, convincing me to make the switch to lacrosse,” said the track athlete, “I got Gabe to play lacrosse.” Gabe Kawamura is a Junior on the team who made the switch his freshman year.
To start playing lacrosse, a new player will need a few things. “Lacrosse, like some other sports, needs some personal equipment,” Mr. Kanagy says that cleats, a lacrosse stick, and also lacrosse gloves and pads are needed. The players can buy their own helmet or check out a helmet from the school. Coach Belleau will have gear for the new players.
The other goal is for the team to do well this season. In the past two seasons, Windsor lacrosse made it to the second round playoffs, but they plan to get farther this year. Their goal is to make it to the playoffs, win state, and make a statement for Windsor High School’s lacrosse team.
“Our offense and defense are good,” Scott said, “Getting it between defense and offense is where we struggle. The transition between the two is hard.”
“I guarantee there will be more spirit,” Bowman says about the student section this season. He says, “It’s going to be a good year for Windsor lacrosse.”

Football Players
From Philip Morris
Dear Editor,
What is your opinion on the fact that the football players get all the attention at assemblies, in the hallways, and any other time they’re around? It’s pretty unfair if you ask me. First of all, women aren’t even allowed to play. Second of all, not all guys are capable of playing either, as they could have physical disabilities, or some other problem. Some people don’t even have the time for sport or reliable transportation. Some people don’t even like football. My third and final point is that other people deserve some attention, too. Now if you could please tell me your honest opinion on this, it’d be very helpful.
Thanks,

Philip Morris

No Good In Goodbye
The song “Where’s the Good in Goodbye” by The Script can be well connected to because if you have ever gone through a rough ending in a relationship then you can relate to how he is feeling.
The lyrics were quite relatable. I really like how he takes parts of words or phrases, such as “Where’s the nice in nice try?”, and in a way proves the statements wrong. It’s also very interesting when he says “Now I’m the low in lonely” and “ I can’t take the ache from heartbreak.”
The music is alright as well. It’s very smooth, as well as the fact that the transitions are obviously there but they go well within the song and don’t screw up the heartfelt way the song is sung and written as. Danny O’Donoghue’s voice fits the song well, though it would help if it were a more powerful voice.
As I’ve previously stated, the way he took parts of words or phrases and proved them wrong was a great idea. If he hadn’t done that, the song would be pretty boring, honestly. The song gets a bit bland after listening to it a few times in a row, though, It could use some more percussion.
This songs shows how some phrases are very untrue, even coined, in the way we use them. It uncovers the fact that there is no “good” in “goodbye.”
I would recommend this song to teenagers and young people. People who have gone through a rough breakup would definitely need to hear this song. I would not recommend this song to people who don’t like The Script and related bands such as Coldplay, because it reminds me of a song that Coldplay would do.
I would give this song a three out of five because though it is a good song and very relatable, it gets very boring after a few listens.

Wizards can’t conjure win

                                           By: Brady Bowman

The Windsor Wizards traveled a long ways to Colorado Springs to compete in the second round of the 4A state playoffs against the Pine Creek Eagles on November 7th. The two teams collided during last years playoffs, in the same exact round, and sadly for the wizards, the two games ended in the same exact manner. The Pine Creek Eagles (10-0 during the regular season) are powerhouses in the 4A division who completely dominated their conference yet again. The Wizard’s (7-3) defence is ranked first in state, and accompanied by a high octane offence who averaged 40 points a game. The wizards carried the momentum from the very first play, where Landon Schmidt returned the opening kickoff to the wizards own 40 yard line, giving Windsor’s offence outstanding field position. “I just see a seam, and cut it up to gain as many yards I can,” Schmidt explained. The next two plays made it look like the Wizards had the game in the bag, gaining 30 yards in two powerful runs thanks to one of Windsor’s wingbacks, Noah Winik. On the next play, disaster struck when Brandon Ramirez (freshman wingback) fumbled on the Eagles 46 yard line. The number one defence held the defending state champions to a three and out on their first possession. Windsors offence was shut down on their own five yard line, which set up a 8 yard touchdown for Pine Creeks Tommy Larazzo. The Windsor team got their hands on the ball again on the 2nd quarter. They drove the ball down the field until Jake Shields punched the ball into the endzone from the two yard line. near the end of the second quarter. After the wizards put 7 points on the board, pine creek put together a successful drive, and scored again to close out the second half. The second half was a stalemate. A defensive battle. No points were scored aside from late in the third quarter, where the Wizards senior Quarterback Tanner Bohm threw an interception on the wizards own 12 yard line, which resulted in another Pine Creek touchdown. “We just had to try and take shots and it didn’t work out,” Bohm said, trying to explain the rough loss, 24-7 Pine Creek. “The tough part is realizing that we won’t be practicing like we usually do this week; that’s what’s hard about it,” Coach Jones Explained.

Student athletes

All student athletes work hard for one common goal, to become the best team. Teammates push each other to achieve greatness everyday, but some students only excel on the field/court, and underachieve in the classroom. Call it laziness, but in all reality the education system isn’t set up to benefit athletes. After a three hour practice who has the time to do another 3 hours of homework, plus the time to eat, shower, and spend time with your family.
Student athlete Petey Maxwell stated, “I hope, one day, to play college lacrosse. I have the talent on the field, but I struggle with loads of homework assigned.” Petey is just one of many that struggle to find the time to get all of his work done and still maintain a balanced and preached nine hours of sleep. In fact due to the abundance of homework and long practice hours an average high school athlete sleeps six to seven hours. The lack of sleep is not a perk to the active teens.
Schools have needed to address this problem for awhile, it is causing a plethora of stress within the hallways and locker rooms. Schools want winning teams as well do the students and taking a closer look at this recurring problem might benefit all athletic and extracurricular activities.

Adamm’s Family Review
By Kameron Nylander
On November 14th, I had the pleasure of watching the Windsor High School play, “The Adamm’s Family.” The play had everything that you wanted in a play. Humor, romance, mystery, adventure, and action. Nick Blatt played Uncle Fester, who believes in true love. He was the perfect person for the part. He didn’t seem nervous when acting and was really into his character. Anna Boyle played Wednesday Adamms and Ms. Estrada threw in a twist from the movie with her falling in love with the mortals. There is a really good character development in each one of the characters. Wednesday’s parents don’t approve of the mortal at first but then change their minds. Uncle Fester slowly changes during the play and so do es Gomez Adamms, the father. The plot had many curveballs that kept you guessing during the whole play. If this was how Windsor’s theater department started out with this play, I expect many more great plays to come.

WHS Advice: Freshman Struggles
By: Karsen Hennessy
Three of the main things that freshmen have a hard time with their first year of high school would be their time management,  homework/ teachers, and lastly getting involved in school to keep out of the trouble. So if you are a freshman and struggling with these three things there are some very helpful tips below.
You may be feeling like you don't know what to do with all the work you have, and  your grades may be falling. Your parents are mad  and you're under a lot of stress. I know the feeling so all you have to do is going into your teacher and talk to them about any work you can do to bring your grade up, if there is nothing then you need to go in at ELO ( I know that is the last thing you want to do)  you think you're too cool for school but you know what's even cooler than not going is getting good grades so that way you have a good year. “It’s better to have friendship with a teacher, rather than to be the cool kid in school.” said by KC Scott.
In your freshman year you will get a lot more homework than needed and you will hate your teachers for it. But since WHS has a block schedule you will have a day to do all your homework. That doesn't mean put it off till the last minute because you can and will get too cluttered and then stressed out and you dont want that. You also have to think about eha homework will take the longest, also  think about your grades and which ones are suffering the most, if you have one that you need to focus on a little more than you give that subject a little more attention. Dont ever forget that your teachers will be your best friends through your academic life.
As much as it is encouraged to get involved in school do not get too involved and  get yourself overwhelmed and stressed. This will make you and your grades suffer remember to take a day or two for yourself and not for school related activities. Trust me it gets too much to handle.  Make sure to do a sport or participate in a club to keep you busy and stay out of the trouble that could possibly come your way. When you get involved in school then you also expand your friend circle because let me tell you, all your little 8th grade cliques that you think will stay together in high school, they won't and you will have to start over.
If you follow these main three helpful tips you just might survive your freshman year!

Addams Family Review
By: Karsen Hennessy
The Windsor High School has put on a play they , did the play The Addams Family. The play is going on the 13th, 14th, and the 15th of November.
The play for WHS is about the Adams family and lets just say that they aren't your typical family. They are crazy, creepy, and they will leave on the edge of your seat. They are wacky but full of humor, when Morticia and Gomez dance and sing like its the last thing they will ever do, how they show their affection in ways most people don't; it will make you completely jealous of their love. Keeping that all in mind lets not forget the two wonderful children they have together that love to cause mayhem and love to cause each other physical pain the two Wednesday and Pugsly but then we can't forget about uncle Fester. None of the family members dress like a “normal” person they all wear black all year round.
In the play Wednesday hurts her brother just so that she can talk to a cute boy and then they are going to have dinner and all Wednesday wants is to have a normal date and a normal night, but will that go as planned? The Addam’s go day to day with being considered creepy, scary, and not people you want to be around; although none of them seem to care. This play is a family fun event performed by our Windsor students, I recommend that you pack up your kids and head on over to WIndsor high school.
When I sat down to watch the teaser of the Windsor high school play , I was thrilled to see the performance. I love the movie version of the Addams Family  so I was ready to see the different interpretation of it from the high school. Also seeing the  high school students that have a passion for acting is truly amazing. Right off the bat the play started off great the music was perfect the dancing was well choreographed and you could tell that these students had worked hard to perfect the routines. Although there was some of the actors that could use some improvements but despite that I don't think the play was half bad. I would give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. So why don't you get the family together and go see the play for yourself?

Story 1
With the crushing loss to Pine Creek in the Colorado 4A state playoffs, Windsor looks to ignite the flame on the upcoming sport basketball. Josh Bock had a few things to say about upcoming basketball season at Windsor High School. Josh was saying how Windsor has a good chance at winning the conference title this year because of all the seniors playing on varsity this year. C team and jv will also be good because of the talented freshman coming to WHS. Josh had a prediction that varsity will make it to the final four of the CHSSA State Playoffs. He was thinking that it would be fantastic for our school to make it that far in the playoffs. He feels that our basketball season is going to be a good one, so you don't want to miss any of our games. Even if those games are away. A question was asked about what he thinks our preseason ranking will be; he didn't know what it was, but he guessed that it was around 20th in the state which is pretty good. "We have a powerhouse of a team." Bock pointed out and it was an agreeable statement. We have many sharpshooters from the arc, so you know that we will have a good team. A question was asked  about what teams we should watch out for during this season. He replied with Sterling, Greeley West, and Thompson Valley. He was saying how these teams have big men that are unreal and can also throw it down if needed. As we closed with our interview he said that this was going to be a good season and you don't want to miss it. After this interview he was in total confidence of our basketball season.

Story 2

CHSSA is the premier athletic association in Colorado.  One of of the biggest in the US. I wanted to inform the editor that we should be concerned about these powerhouse teams staying in their same classification every single year. My opinion is that if you win a state championship, you should have to move up a classification to make more competition. In my opinion we should have a petition for this type of thing. It would be great if the state changed their playoff rules. This is my opinion about these playoffs because I am concerned about these low seed teams not winning. The playoffs should consist of pools like in the FIFA World Cup. Or that is just my opinion. With football you would have a two game series to determine who will go to to the next round of the playoffs. Baseball and all other sports would have a 5 game series determining who would go to the next round. The the playoffs are a problem now because the powerhouse teams play the lowest seeded teams and stomp all over them. We need to give all of the teams an even chance at winning the state title. Some of these teams work so hard but come up short in the first round, losing to the first seed. We want to change these playoffs quick and effectively. We want these low seeded teams to have have a potential shot at winning winning a championship, including WHS.

Story 3

Here is a feature sneak peek on  the upcoming winter sports at WHS. Basketball was already discussed in another story, so it won’t be discussed in this one. Our swimming team this year is supposed to be phenomenal, rumors have been spreading around the school about how there will be a state championship coming to WHS. There are a couple of girls that have their eyes on the state title for this year. Plus some guys also have their eyes on the title as well. As you all know, our wrestling team is one of the best in the state and people wouldn't be surprised if we win another state championship. We have some great freshman who had a very good middle school career and could be a potential sleeper at the state tournament. As always, our seniors know what they are doing and should lock up yet another state title for Windsor High School. From hearing things around school, everybody is fired up about the wrestling season to start and no one wants to miss this powerhouse season. We could be one of the top premier high schools in the state of Colorado because of how good our coaches work with our players to achieve one goal, a state championship. This is the year for winter sports at Windsor High School so don't miss out on all of these fantastic teams.

Chandler Schulz
Winter Sports

This year Windsor High School hopes to  succeed in all winter sports after having the fall sports succeeding so much and setting the bar high. This year Windsor High School is having three winter sports. There will be boys and girls basketball, girls swimming and diving ,and boys wrestling.

Last year boys and girls basketball had a combined record of  32-13. Both girls and boys varsity had good seasons but the girls varsity having a great season finishing 17-5. The boys varsity was not as good as expected but still had a good season finishing 15-8. Both teams this year look to keep building and have one of their best seasons as always.

Windsor High School girls swimming and diving is always improving and getting better. This year’s team has some people looking to qualify for state on the boys and girls side. They look to come out this year and dominate in their conference and continue to improve.

As for the boys wrestling they look to come off an undefeated year . They had five seniors leave this season but have a great class of incoming freshman to replace them as well as the upperclassman.Windsor High looks like this winter season of sports is going to be great and fun to experience.

NoCo All-State: Creating Stress
By Kameron Nylander
It’s about that time again for band kids to start stressing about the All-State auditions. All-State is a band that consists of the best players in the state of Colorado. All-State sends in the audition music to the directors and they give it to their students. “ I want Windsor High School plastered all over that band.” Mr. Darragh said. Students get audition music at the beginning of the year and practice until it’s perfect.
It is definitely the time of year when all you hear is the audition music in the band room. Windsor High School always has had members in the band, but only as alternates. This year the directors want everyone trying out, and everyone has been.  Band members including Carson Barnhart and Steve Morgan practiced non-stop until the auditions. “I’ve tried out every single year and haven’t gotten in,” Carson said “This year I’ve practiced the hardest I ever have.” And with all that hard work it will hopefully pay off in the end.

Big Change in Music Department
By Kameron Nylander

This year Windsor’s music department with two new band directors experienced a big change. With one retiring due to health complexions and another moving to a new school, Windsor had to hire two new directors to fill the void. Rob Darragh, a drill sergeant for the marines, took one of the positions and Chris Pilsner, a Central Michigan music theory graduate, took the other.
Darragh marched for the Blue Knights and the marines. He taught at CSU before this. With him here the marching band improved in total points at state, but did drop down two spots from last year. “That just shows how much better the competition was this year,” Darragh said. Also Darragh said that he has chosen harder music for wind ensemble compared to previous. “You can tell that he wants us to be successful,” Thomas Chadwick said when asked about previous years “ He pushes us harder than Mr. Drase ever did, and I’m very appreciative for that.”
Pilsner started out at UNC, but then transferred to Central Michigan and got his masters in music. He teaches concert band, jazz ensemble, AP music theory, and assists Darragh in marching band. “The kids have been asking for harder music and jazz and I’ve been giving it to them, and they’ve been playing it well.” Pilsner answered when asked about what has been different in teaching here.
Even teachers and parents can tell that these new directors are the real deal. “You guys sound a lot better than last year and my wife said it was ‘the best half time show she has ever seen.’” Mr. Bator said. “I want the students to interact with the band instead of ignoring them at sporting events.” Darragh said when asked about what he wants to change. Expect many changes to come for many years to come.

World News
by: Kalika Browder
The world is ever changing, and catalyst events are constantly taking place. From the United States to Syria, something is always occurring that could change the way we see everything.
Ebola is one of those topics. Over the course of the past few months, it has been one of the most talked about diseases. It spread through Africa, killing thousands. In the United States, extra precautions have been added to airport security, as well as hospital staffs, in case a patient who has Ebola is located to a hospital in the US. If people are coming back from West Africa and into the US, then a health screening is to be taken place. As for a cure for this deadly disease, there is still no known one. Researchers are still looking not a cure.
Another highly debated topic in recent months is Ferguson, Missouri.
The issue of Ferguson, Missouri was first brought up in August 9th, when Michael Brown, an unarmed African American teenager was shot by Darren Wilson, a police officer, and killed. The issue has led to riotings throughout the country. When it was announced that Wilson would not be charged with the death of Michael Brown, more violent rioting took place. Many people are angry with the verdict. Ferguson is still a trending topic, due to the amount of rioting, as well as many peoples’ opinion on the decision.
As for the issue of Isis, the well known terrorist group commonly known for the beheadings of American journalists that they captured on tape,  fighting is still escalating between them, and the U.S. The U.S. has dropped many airstrikes on cities where Isis is known to be located. Isis is also still recruiting fighters for their group. The U.S. is continuing to fight against Isis, in hopes of abolishing Isis.

The Wizarding World of WHS
by Kalika Browder
Windsor High School isn’t an average school. Windsor High School is an empowering school. It allows students to not only succeed, but also to grow.
My own opinion on WHS is that it is a great school. Windsor High School is filled with passionate young minds and an optimistic, well rounded staff. If you were to walk down the halls and into any classroom, you could see just exactly what WHS has to offer. In fact, Michael Kavanagh, an aspiring English teacher as well as Mrs.Sutton's student teacher, agrees on the fact that WHS has a great environment. "It [WHS] is much more upbeat than other schools I've been to." He said. He also said that the students are focused, and they seem like they want to be here.
My opinion is much like Kavanagh's. Windsor High School is filled with over one thousand students who are dedicated to learning and being engaged. WHS is also filled with clubs and activities that promotes well-being and learning as a whole. The curriculum is good and it allows students to not be restricted by overruled standards.
Overall, my opinion of Windsor High School, Home of the Windsor Wizards, is of extremely high remarkability. I believe that WHS is a phenomenal high school, filled with striving students, a staff filled with leaders, and made up of a community of amazing people.

Interact Club Personal Opinion
Andrea Sandoval
Windsor high school has made a remarkable impact on students from year one. Consistently helping students achieve their excessive goals and more importantly watching their students walk across that stage taking a step into their new lives. But how does it seem that easy? Getting involved, now that’s the key.
In WHS there are so many ways to get involved into the school. Programs,AP classes, musical plays, and even clubs. One specific club that will really help achieve your biggest priorities is The Interact Club. Interact helps you contribute with the school and our community by making fundraisers and helping our neighborhood.
Interact is a great club to look forward to. All of the members in this club will really make you feel welcomed and will change your perspective of helping and contributing with other people in your community. This club will make you feel good about what you are doing to provide for others.
Meetings are held every first and fourth Wednesday of every month. When you come in for group meetings the atmosphere is just always positive and fun. The group leaders have lots to say and are motivated to change something in all of the group members lives.
There are few clubs in WHS that are as eye opening as this one. You get to set up for special events like recreational events and go around the neighborhood with your friends in order to help certain causes. The thing that makes Interact most unique is that they don’t take everything so seriously. They try to make it fun and open you up so you won’t feel like a stranger because they want you to feel like your apart of a family not just students coming to school to learn.
The best part of it is that they offer it to all grade levels. So you get to interact with people you wouldn’t normally interact with. The main reason why they do what they do is to prepare us for the future. I mean no wants to be locked in their room for hours a day without at least doing something meaningful with their lives, because what you’re doing now could really impact your future in a good or bad way.
Music or Sports may not always be the best option for people. So that’s why there are so many clubs in Windsor High School that you will find interest in.FBLA, Key club, and Interact club are pretty much all very alike. No matter what you choose they will all make you feel different by the end of the year and interest you into different activities whether its helping with something big or something small.
Playing a part in any sort of activity like Interact will make it easy for you to make new friends, to get to know the Windsor High School staff, and will most definitely help give you a good name for future colleges and careers. Interact Club will lead you to a great progress in your life and will provide the best gateway for your near future.

Recognizing WHS Interact Club
Andrea Sandoval

Throughout the past few months of learning about, and experiencing what it’s like
to be apart of the Windsor High School family, you will come cross many opportunities
that can help you with college plans and scholarships to get you on the right path for your near future. One of these great opportunities would have to be being able to be apart the Interact Club.
Although you probably never heard too much about Interact, this is one of many ways to get involved with our high school family. This is an all grade level club that helps our neighborhood and school with fundraisers and volunteer work. All for the good of our district and community.
As an inside look into the Interact Club Nicole Saenz, Junior at WHS has lots of positive things to say about it. Nicole said ”Interact is a club that helps the community so it gives a good name for our school and focuses more on the importance of pretty much helping our Windsor community”. As you can see school clubs are focusing more on the good of the people and the community.
Nicole Saenz also added that Interact is important so students can participate and learn lifelong skills and leadership skills. After All it's important that you leave your high school years proud and accomplished. Right?Nicole said “Some of the those smaller clubs out there should be known more because that way students can participate in them and the more it’s out there the more people will participate in it.”
As of 2014,our WHS Interact Club has yet to have more and more new members coming in. Jessica Eastin, WHS Freshmen says that “School clubs like Interact should be known schoolwide, because it’s an opportunity to find what students enjoy and to get to know other people.” Since this specific club is struggling to be known to all of the WHS students,Jessica Eastin said that the best advice she would give smaller clubs, are to simply “make posters.” That way anyone walking down the halls can see that name and at least recognize it in the future.
Susana Saenz former Windsor High School student says “If students aren’t invovled in any sports that clubs are the best way to go, because it helps them interact with different kids and just knowing that there apart of a club might even get them out of trouble ,if there more of a troubled teenager.” Interact will definetely help students that are struggling with drug abuse or students who often consume alcohol. It will just get your mind off of your worst habits and help do something more meaningfull with your life.
“Being involved with your school will help get you to college because colleges look at what you have done in school and if you are a good candidate based on what you’ve done in the past” Destiny Sandoval says Junior at Windsor High School.
Overall Interact Club will really help get you to the places you want to go
in your life with the positive members and leaders there. If you are ever interested
in becoming a member meetings are every first and fourth Wednesday of  every
month in room 112. Hope to see you there!

Andrea's special

Dear Editor,

I have a few questions about the recent I.D card charges. Recently this year they have put a stand up at the front office. This stand is here for if you are late to a class, you need to swipe your I.D and you get a receipt. This makes it way easier for teachers to look back and see who has been late to their class. This school requires you to have your I.D with you at all times. I find that a little unfair. We are in highschool, we forget things. I for one have lost my I.D several times. I haven't ran into any problems, but people are. If you leave your I.D at home you must pay $5 for not having it with you at the stand. I think that is ridiculous. What do you think, should we cover the topic in the paper, and why haven't I read  anything regarding the new news in this paper?

WHS parking lot gets trickier with snow

November gave Windsor a lot of snow, and during that time Windsor High School’s student parking lot remained to be unmaintained and the amount of chaos increased. It doesn't snow much in Windsor, so when there is snow it makes an unique driving experience in and out of the WHS parking lot.
I remember the first day that it snowed this year. In the parking lot snow covered the pavement and the lines, so all of the cars were parked in different positions and places. WHS students made their own patterns instead of following what was already there. This says something about the characters of the students at our school.
It says that WHS students, so to speak, create their own paths. It’s also something new that differs from the same everyday routine, and at the same time, drivers can learn how to drive better in the snow. That is why the school must not regulate parking in the student lot when there is snow on the ground. Having snow provides a new setting for the scene and a whole new perspective on driving that boosts the confidence in WHS students.
High school drivers usually haven’t been driving for very long. Hundreds of new drivers navigating through the student parking lot when it’s snowing doesn’t sound like a very good idea to some. The truth is that students can better learn to drive in the student lot than anywhere else because there is a very slow pace at the lot. This allows for students to get comfortable in the snow at a good pace.
Despite all of the new drivers at WHS, there haven’t been any car collisions in the parking lot this year regardless if there was snow or not. A lot of people were worrying about crashes when the snow started, but thankfully there have not been any car accidents this year. I don’t expect that there will be any accidents in the future either.
In the morning, at lunch, and after school, do I enter and exit the parking lot. After a while this routine became regular. I saw the same thing every day with no change. When it snowed for the first time, my routine was no longer regular. This wasn’t the same scene that I’ve seen all year, but I enjoyed seeing a difference in scenery while I came into the parking lot that morning. I saw some students hurrying to the school because it was so cold, I saw cars awkwardly parked in a crooked line, and I saw many things that only happen on these kinds of days.
When snow covers the parking lines, the students can’t conform to the norms of parking in the WHS student lot. An important lesson is learned through this: don’t worry about what is given to you and what isn’t. With that, the students must take leadership and start a row of parking. This creates leadership skills, and gives those students a confidence boost.
The WHS student parking lot shouldn’t be plowed during the winter because students learn many things, and it creates a second take for the scene.

How to make next years Thanksgiving better than the rest.
Print date 11/28/14 1:15 MDT          by, Mara Scullion

All Thanksgivings are great. Family and friends come together the celebrate this joyous holiday. You may think your Thanksgiving was the best, but I have tips to make it even better. Here are some tips for your holiday joy.

On Thanksgiving or any holidays, family comes. Make them your first priority, family first. Spend time with your family. Sure football is fun to watch, turkey is fun to eat, and cards are fun to play, but family is what we are most thankful for, right. Elders are very important because they worship their time even more. Making your family will make them feel even more important and that will start the the holiday off right.

Turkey is also very important. Having the right turkey is great. Butterball is the best in my opinion, and studies show that most people buy a fresh free range organic turkey. Gathering around the table brings people together and that is why having great food is important. Having good food means a great day.

Eating in increments is important as well. You dont want to be full and uncomfortable for the holidays. Having fun and playing cards takes energy and you don’t want to waste it on eating. Take breaks to talk to family and if you must watch some football.

Football is always fun and so is turkey. Football is exciting and you can watch it with family. So football can take your mind of of stress and you can fit it in between things. While the host is cooking, waiting for dessert, and waiting for cards. You can spend time with family and depending on how your family works, you can eat while watching it too.

Cards wrap up the day nicely. You don’t have to play cards, any activity can bring the family together. It wraps up the day, letts you have a fun conversation and chill. It adds that finishing touch to the best Thanksgiving, or any holiday.

All of these things add to the best Thanksgiving you will ever have, but it won’t be the best if you don’t make it that way. Your holiday is how you make it. Have fun and it will be the best Thanksgiving ever.

Boys Basketball 2014

This year the Boys Basketball looks to come off a strong season and will try to continue to build into a great team. This year WHS is having 4 teams due to the massive number of kids going to practices. There are going to be a D through Varsity teams. The basketball team has two new coaches entering the year. The C-team coach is Coach Redman and the D-team coach is Coach Mitchell.
WHS has one goal and one goal only this year and is the same goal every year, win the state championship. The varsity team will need to learn how to play with each other quickly because of many new players on the team due to the loss of seniors. WHS will have 3 seniors this year. Each Senior will have a massive photo hung next to the student section in the WHS gym. WHS has never done this before and is doing this, this year to honor the seniors for all their hard work and dedication the the basketball program.

The JV basketball team coached by Deric Yaussi has 4 incoming freshman on the team and he will have his work cut out for him because of these players never playing together. The JV program has done well in the past but they look to really take hold of their conference and be a team that can win multiple games.

The C and D teams look to improve the skill level of the younger players because they are the future of WHS basketball. Both teams want to win as many games as possible and succeed as much as they can. The C team is full of freshman that can run up and down the court with no worries. The D team has a great passing team that can get open shots and good ones too.

All of the programs look to be as successful as they can but the one main goal of all teams is to have a basketball program where WHS is feared and dominant in every fashion.
